It is maintained, always a place to be- FAM , friends, dogs(leash & pick up after your own dog properly), and alone. Whatever occasion is, there is always a "quiet" place, and its never ending beauty
I recently was able to enjoy Stuarts Park with my kids and some dear & exceptionally wonderful friends of mine. It was just an awesome - normal August day to be enjoyed..
The camp hosts, Rhoda and Glen were super helpful and friendly! The bathrooms and shower house are clean, and there is plenty of hot water! The sites are clean and the fire pits have a double grill that make cooking very easy! We have four small kids and they had a blast riding their bikes around the campground. We stayed in July and the temperatures were perfect and we were amazed at the lack of bugs. The campsite is over all small, which is nice- to keep noise and campground traffic down. For tent camping, site 15 is hands down the best! The only reason I'm giving this a 4 instead of 5 is because of the nearby highway traffic noise and dog barking/fighting noise. There is a dog facility nearby that interrupts the still and quiet of this beautiful place, so be aware you might not get an uninterrupted night of sleep! The Shavers Fork swimming and fishing area adjacent to this campground is beautiful, too!
Very secluded park - great place to get away from it all. Though it only has standard electric hook up (30 amp) we managed just fine using our reducer from 50 to 30 amp. There is no water or septic on the individual sites but every 4 or 5 sites there is a water spout to fill your tanks if needed and there are clean bath houses through out park. Also there is a big dump station to empty your sewage.
Wemt to a Boy scout camp on the border of the park
We enjoyed the big roomy spot at #22, has big fire pit and extra large picnic table. The camp hosts were very friendly and helpful. They even had fire wood.
I'm gonna give it a 5, I spent many a day at the swim hole jumping off those rocks through my elementary school years, 1968 to 1975. Haven't been back since but a great place.
I really am grateful for CLEAN parks & FAM & my friends.
I think the only draw back for us because we are not use to it, is the huge mountains we encountered driving here - very curvy and steep. We have an F350 pulling a 40 ft 5th wheel (16,000 lbs) so you can imagine how scary it was making those sharp curves going up n down the mountain. Our brakes were squealing by the time we got halfway through the mountains. But the view was absolutely beautiful and the experience is something we'll never forget.
The town Elkins is 10 minutes away and has many stores, places to eat, and fuel - $2.39 a gallon for diesel at Krogers.
This place offers camping, rv camping, a trail, fishing areas, and the best swimming hole around. The day use/parking fee is $5, but it's just as easy to hike in to the swimming hole from the trail.
